About Me
YUTOPIA is a blog featuring essays and observations tackling major contemporary issues in society, primarily focusing on (but not limited to) religion - Judaism in particular.
YUTOPIA prioritizes quality over immediacy and quantity (or at least tries to). Typically, YUTOPIA will not be updated as often as other blogs, but will try to articulate a unique perspective - often mixing logic with irreverence. YUTOPIA has never been an anonymous blog, ensuring accountability for statements and arguments. YUTOPIA avoids ad hominem attacks, and subsequent discussions in the comments are typically insightful and valuable contributions.
YUTOPIA originated to simply reflect the thoughts and musing of Rabbi Joshua Yuter (hence the Y in YUTopia), but it has since evolved into an expression of an intelligent holistic religious perspective on contemporary society and our culture.
Rabbi Joshua Yuter was ordained in 2003 from Yeshiva University's Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary. He also holds a B.A. in Computer Science from Yeshiva University, an M.A. in Talmudic Studies from Yeshiva University, and Master's Degree in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago. Rabbi Yuter is also an alum of Yeshivat Har Etzion.
Rabbi Yuter writes and lectures on various issues pertaining to law, theology, and society through the unique perspective of a second-generation Rabbi with diverse personal and professional experiences and interests. In addition to his academic pursuits, Rabbi Yuter has worked as an applications developer for Information Builders and JPMorgan Chase. He also created and maintains www.JewishGuitarChords.com and has taught a class Jewish guitar.
Rabbi Yuter is currently serving as the Rabbi of the Stanton Street Shul on New York's Lower East side.
