Someone drew my attention to your comments. I'm only responding to them because I respect you, and am surprised at the negativity just oozing from your post.
First of all, where did you think you were performing, Carnegie Hall? This was a chilled-out, largely informal event in a shul auditorium, with an admission charge of 7 bucks, pizza included. None of the other musical performers raised a fuss about a lack of a high-tech musical setup.
As for this being only "technically" not a singles event because some of the participants considered it a singles event: just because some people have a distorted impression of what type of event it was, despite the fact that it was most definitely NOT a singles event, does not change its status. People have distorted impressions about all kinds of things, including Judaism, and that does not mean the true status is only "technical" It means those people are wrong.
Honestly, Josh, I've come to expect more thoughtful posts from you than this. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy yourself, but perhaps the attitude you came with contributed more to it than the way the event was organized.
